Desert Express - Namibias 5 Star Luxury Train

Namibias unique rail experience offers a twice weekly journey between Windhoek, the capital of Namibia and Swakopmund, a premier coastal resort. Longer journeys to northern and southern Namibia are offered, please enquire about dates of travel. Desert Express has 24 en-suite compartments, which are fully air-conditioned. Compartments convert into bedrooms for the evening, and sleeps up to three people (2 adults, 1 child). These aforementioned compartments are contained in Kokerboom, Oryx, Springbok and Meerkat. The additional coaches Spitzkoppe and Welwitschia offer guests the unique opportunity to experience Namibian hospitality in our VIP lounge, restaurant and informal bar. A full bar service is offered in our Spitzkoppe Lounge, and our Welwitschia Restaurant serves a three course dinner, with a selection of starters, main courses and desserts. A full English breakfast is also served. The Desert Express Routes Windhoek to Swakopmund After departing Windhoek in the early afternoon, Desert Express heads north until it reaches the Otjihavera Siding. Here you will be taken to the luxurious Okapuka Game Ranch to experience the excitement of watching lions being fed only meters away. When youre back on board, Desert Express continues its westward journey. Enjoy the sunset over the open vastness of Namibia in the Spitzkoppe Lounge or through the large windows of your compartment. In the Welwitschia Restaurant, a sumptuous three-course dinner awaits you. The train stops for the night at Kranzberg siding. Next morning, Desert Express continues westward into the desert and behind the dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Here, theres a one-hour stop to allow passengers to disembark and take a walk to the dunes of the Namib. The train then proceeds to its final destination, Swakopmund, where it will arrive at approximately 10:00. Swakopmund to Windhoek Desert Express departs from Swakopmund in the early afternoon and stops at the Stingbank siding. Here you will be able to enjoy the sights of the Khan Valley. Guests will be taken on a short nature walk followed by a sundowner. Back on the train, enjoy a beautiful sunset and the ever changing desert scenery from the comfort of your compartment or the Spitzkoppe Lounge. Dinner is served in the Welwitschia Restaurant. Next morning, Desert Express arrives at the Otjihavera siding from where you will be taken to Okapuka Game Ranch for a Game drive. From here Desert Express continues its journey to Windhoek where it arrives at approx 10:30.
